Details:This is a class for YOU and YOUR BABY (and your partner if either of you so chooses), where your baby can eat, sleep, cry, fuss, or whatever else they or you feel like doing. You can practice on your baby, on a doll, watch and listen, or even take a break when needed.

For 5 consecutive weeks beginning on July 31st, we'll meet once a week for approximately 90 minutes (class series hosted on 7/31, 8/7, 8/14, 8/21, and 8/28). The class structure allows parents and babies enough time to learn strokes, use them at home, review strokes from the previous week, and share experiences each week along with any questions that come up. We emphasize infant massage being a communication process between parents and their babies by watching the baby for their response throughout the massage, responding to their cues and respecting their communication throughout every massage. The process is structured, yet flexible and adaptable to continue to use as your baby gets bigger and older (or to start using on your older kiddos). These classes are completely baby-led and are beneficial to both parent/caregiver and baby in a variety of ways.

Some benefits for baby can be:
Interaction:
  • Promotes bonding and secure attachment with your child over time
Stimulation:
  • Aids in the development of your baby’s systems, sensory integration, and muscular development
Relaxation:
  • Regulates sleep patterns, increases flexibility, and regulates behavioral states
  • Reduces levels of stress hormones and hyper-sensitivity
Relief:
  • Provides relief from common discomforts
  • It helps release physical and emotional tension, balances oxygen levels, and provides a sense of security
Some benefits for parents can be:
  • Releases bonding and relaxing hormones into your system
  • Can aid in lactation, self-esteem, and confidence in your parenting
  • Creates a better understanding of and response to infant cues
  • Provides a social environment that is nurturing, safe and fun!
This is a simple-to-learn series with a profound process. There is so much research out there now and we will learn some along with some relaxation techniques, behavioral states, infant cues, infant reflexes, more benefits, adaptations, a special massage routine for the relief of colic/gas, and more.

This structure and massage routines were put together by Vimala McClure, founder of the International Association of Infant Massage (IAIM). Vimala designed these series of strokes through her knowledge and training that combined traditional Indian massage-whose strokes aid in releasing tension, Swedish massage techniques-whose strokes aid in circulation, reflexology, and modified yoga postures. With more research through the years, the IAIM makes sure to thoroughly train CEIM’s with not only a 5-day training and tests, but a practicum involving teaching the full 5 week classes to 6 parents. The purpose of the International Association of Infant Massage is to promote nurturing touch and communication though training, education and research so that parents, caregivers and children are loved, valued and respected throughout the world community.

You just need to be in comfortable clothing, bring your baby, normal diaper bag, and anything else that might help you feel comfortable. Invite your friends with babies and help grow yours and someone else’s support group/”village”, because parenting is hard work! See you in class!!
