Alicia Cowdrey, MD, is a District Medical Group psychiatrist and outpatient medical director of Behavioral Health Services at Valleywise Health. After completing undergraduate work in psychology and biology at the University of Arizona, Dr. Cowdrey began working in the mental health field, first working as a case manager for ValueOptions in Phoenix, then working her way up the ladder: supervising direct care clinic projects, working in program development to serve unmet system needs, and supervising the Maricopa County Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) teams. During this time, Dr. Cowdrey saw first-hand the importance of early intervention to help persons challenged by mental illness lead productive lives.
