West-MEC’s Northeast Campus is hosting the West-MEC Auto Skills Challenge on Saturday, April 5, where West-MEC auto students will be pitted against each other in a competition that puts their automotive skills to the test. The competition starts at 9:00 a.m.

The Skills Challenge is an annual event where students compete and have fun. The students who place in the top three in the challenge (first and second-year students have separate competitions) will earn prizes, such as a toolset or toolbox.

This event wouldn’t be possible without help from West-MEC sponsors who give their time judging and donating money and the prizes winning students receive. The sponsors of this event include:
  • Avondale Toyota
  • Bell Ford
  • Bell Lexus
  • BMW of North Scottsdale
  • Ferrari of North Scottsdale
  • JRRS Auto and Truck
  • Larry Miller Toyota
  • Larry Miller - Hyundai
  • Lithia / Bell Toyota
  • Maserati of North Scottsdale
  • Matco
  • SRP
  • Sanderson Ford
  • Snap-On
  • Subaru-U
  • Sun Automotive - Wilhelm
  • Tech Force Foundation
This event also doubles as a recruiting opportunity for the sponsors and a networking opportunity for the students. Sponsors can see the students showcase their skills and have the chance to meet them in person.

“We are always looking for new and innovative ways to provide our students with fun opportunities to challenge their skills, have a friendly competition against their peers and have a chance to meet industry professionals,” said Northeast Campus Automotive Technology Instructor Randy Golding.
